The Mentz Family Environmental Stewardship & Historic Land Conservation

George Mentz JD MBA CWM

George Mentz is actively engaged in environmental stewardship and heritage conservation across historic lands in England, Normandy, and Ireland, treating these territories as long-term custodial trusts rather than commercial assets. As Seigneur of the Fief Blondel, he oversees ancient coastal lands that include historic beaches, foreshore, seasted areas, and traditional fishing rights along the Norman and Channel coasts. In Ireland, Mentz is Lord of the Honour and Seignory of Annaly Teffia and Longford, encompassing approximately 290 square miles of an ancient principality marked by rivers, plains, and landscapes shaped by centuries of Gaelic civilization. In England, he serves as Lord of the Bailiwick of Ennerdale, steward of roughly 17,000 acres of one of the nation’s most celebrated natural treasures—renowned for its mountains, lakes, crags, Saxon ruins, and deep Norse and Viking heritage—placing it among the top twenty private manors in England by size and within a UNESCO-recognized heritage region. He is also Lord of the Liberty of Stoborough, an area distinguished by its heaths, rivers, waterways, ancient ruins, Roman history, and historic harbors, likewise situated within a UNESCO-recognized heritage region, reflecting the highest levels of cultural and environmental significance. Mentz approaches these lands not as commercial assets, but as an Environmental and History advocate wtih custodial responsibilities, balancing heritage, ecology, and long-term sustainability. As the Mentz family are the Lords and Seigneurs of Ennerdale, Stoborough, Annaly, and Blondel, they are the stewards to some of the oldest lordships, liberties, bailiwicks, and principalities in history.

Seigneurs of the Fief Blondel et L'Eperons

Normandy & Channel Coastlands

As Seigneur of the Fief Blondel, Mentz is steward of lands that include ancient beaches, foreshore, seasted areas, and historic fishing rights along the Norman and Channel coast.

Environmental priorities include:

  • Protection of coastal and marine ecosystems

  • Preservation of traditional fishing and maritime rights

  • Stewardship of intertidal zones and ancient shorelines

  • Respect for historic access, harbors, and tidal lands

These coastal territories represent some of the oldest continuously governed maritime landscapes in Europe.

Honour & Seignory of Annaly Teffia and Longford

Ireland — Approx. 290 Square Miles

Mentz is Lord of the Honour and Seignory of Annaly Teffia and Longford, encompassing roughly 290 square miles of an ancient Irish principality.

This historic territory includes rivers, plains, wetlands, and rural landscapes shaped by centuries of Gaelic civilization. His stewardship emphasizes:

  • Protection of historic river systems and waterways

  • Preservation of agricultural and rural environments

  • Safeguarding archaeological and sacred sites

  • Respect for traditional land-use patterns

  • Irish and Viking History

  • The protection of titles and events of: Cermomial Assemblies, Princley appoitnments,  Leaders and Chiefs

Annaly Teffia remains one of the oldest and most historically and geographically significant lordships in Ireland dating back to 450AD.

Lord of the Bailiwick of Ennerdale

Cumbria, England — Approx. 17,000 Acres

As Lord of the ancient Bailiwick and Royal Forest of Ennerdale, the Mentz Family is a feudal and manorial custodian of approximately 17,000 acres of one of England’s most dramatic and unspoiled landscapes. Ennerdale is widely regarded as one of the largest private manors in England, ranking among the top 20 in size.

The area is renowned for:

  • Mountains, crags, and wild valleys

  • Pristine lakes and watersheds

  • Ancient Saxon ruins

  • Deep Norse and Viking heritage

Environmental stewardship here prioritizes conservation over development, recognizing Ennerdale as a true national natural treasure.

Lord of the Liberty of Stoborough

Dorset, England

Mentz is also Lord of the Liberty of Stoborough, an area celebrated for its heaths, rivers, waterways, ancient ruins, and harbors.

Key environmental and historic features include:

  • Protected heathlands and wetlands

  • Historic river and tidal systems

  • Roman and early English archaeological remains

  • Proximity to one of the world’s most significant natural harbors

  • A historical position of Mayor and Bailiff elected by the Lord and his jury as sanctioned by the Crown.

Stoborough represents a rare convergence of ecological importance and layered human history.

A Living Philosophy of Stewardship

Across all these lands, George Mentz’s environmental philosophy is consistent:

  • Rights  held in trust, not exploited

  • History and ecology are inseparable

  • Ancient rights carry modern responsibilities

  • Preservation ensures continuity for future generations

  • Fishing for Sport or Food, and hunting with no elimination or reduction of any animals.

His stewardship reflects a commitment to protecting landscapes where nature, history, and culture remain alive and intact.
